Last year's Dinner at The Royal Air Force Club was enjoyable and well attended. There is a wish by some for a change in venue and the Dinner Secretary will make enquiries for future occasions. I would stress that the Royal Air Force Club has offered the best value in recent years.
You will be aware that the School is celebrating its 400th anniversary. They held a special Carthusian Day in June, a Gala Concert with fireworks in July and Founder's Dinner this year in December will be at The Guildhall in London. Your Committee decided that these events would adversely affect attendance at our Annual Dinner and has therefore decided to hold a Drinks Party at Old Charterhouse at which spouses and partners will be welcome on Thursday 13th October.
In 2010 the Gownboy Fund was approached for assistance with fees and I am pleased to report that help is being given. I should like to thank those who generously donate money to the Fund and their support is much appreciated.
I am sad to report that Norman Bonham Carter has decided to stand down as President. Norman was a Committee member for many years before becoming Chairman and then our President. He has given much time and wise counsel to Gownboys and we thank you, Norman, most sincerely and send our best wishes.
Finally, I must thank your Committee for their time and especially the three who do most, namely, Jeremy Bell, Edward Peet and Peter Burke-Murphy.
I look forward to seeing many of you at Old Charterhouse in London on 13th October.
Graham Pratt Chairman
